We are delighted to announce that HealthProm has been awarded a Community Partnership grant from UKAid Direct to support our ongoing work in Tajikistan. UKAid Direct is the Department for International Development’s (DFID) scheme supporting small civil society organisations to achieve sustained poverty reduction.
HealthProm has been working with local partners in Tajikistan since 2008, helping to develop social services to reduce the institutionalisation of young children, and supporting families to prevent child abandonment.
Working together with our partners HDO, Sarchashma and Iroda and in association with UNICEF, we will help the Government of Tajikistan transform four residential institutions, or ‘Baby Homes’, into community-oriented centres providing support for children and families. We will also continue to develop alternatives to the institutional care of young children, such as foster care, and strengthen child protection at the national level.
This grant, funded by the UK Government and the British people, will allow us to directly support 560 parents and children, and also assist the Government of Tajikistan in providing vulnerable children with a better start in life.
