We’re excited to share an update on what we have achieved in the first several months of our new project supporting Ukrainian and Afghan children and young people in North London and Hertfordshire. Our extra educational and well-being support activities are funded by the Department for Levelling-Up and are set to complete in March 2025.
We’re thrilled to have welcomed new staff to the HealthProm team these past several months. In addition to onboarding two new Ukrainian Project Coordinators to help lead our activities for young Ukrainians, we have recruited 7 tutors to provide extra Maths, English and Science support for young Afghans and Ukrainians. We continued to establish connections with other local Ukrainian and Afghan community groups and the local authorities to increase collaboration in promoting and carrying out our project.

We also successfully hosted two awareness-raising campaigns to spread the word about our activities in the local communities. In Harrow, we presented our activities to 40 Afghan parents and local authorities. As a result of the event, we have registered 18 young Afghans for our educational support classes. In Islington, we also successfully hosted a launch event for Ukrainian families. 12 children and teenagers attended the interactive event where we presented our activities. At the event, children had the opportunity to participate in an art activity followed by a professional English language lesson for younger children.

Moving forward, we will continue to provide educational classes and social activities for more Afghan and Ukrainian children and young people as well as implementing essential mental health support and well-being services for children and parents. This project is part of our continued commitment to support Ukrainian and Afghan families as they recover from the trauma of conflict and rebuild their lives in the UK.
