Mariam's story - Afghanistan
Mariam, a 7 year old girl, who has successfully completed her first two years at Primary school.
Sultana, a 38-year woman from Kaldar has four daughters and two sons. Her oldest daughter is 19 and married. Sultana’s two sons are at primary and secondary schools and her nine years old Mariam was 7 at the time when the girls’ schools were rehabilitated in Kaldar. Her two other daughters were 4 and 3 years old.
Mariam is now able to go to school, which is a positive event that has happened to this family. Sultana was very worried that without going to school, Mariam might also be forced to get married at a very young age. Mariam is now 9 and has completed two years of primary school education. Sultana is hopeful that she will be able to continue her education and that her younger daughters will also be able to enrol in primary schools.
