“Improving access to community-based early years and preschool support services for vulnerable children with special needs in Moldova”
This year we continued our partnership work with Moldovian NGOs, 'Partnership for Every Child' and organised a number of training courses for local teachers, therapists and specialists:
In January 2017, the interactive music making team delivered a short training course to teachers, therapists and members of the psycho-pedagogical assistance services from our 5 project regions.
It was truly heart warming to see so many people battling the extreme cold and the piles of snow between their home towns and Chisinau, in order to learn about using music therapeutically with vulnerable children, to help them to communicate.
The photograph shows just how many people turned up on what was the Orthodox New Year.
This was followed in April, by the foundation course in Romanian Makaton, delivered to 15 specialists who had been involved in developing the Romanian signs and symbols with the UK Makaton team.
Makaton is now being used in the 5 regions by a variety of specialists with very positive results.
In July, the HealthProm Project Manager, Jane Ebel, visited all 5 regions to assess how the three UK models - Makaton, Music and Portage - were being implemented on the ground.
Needless to say, the approaches were being interpreted in the regions, in highly innovative ways, to suit both the individual needs of the children and the capacities of the specialists.
