Lancet Article on Global Burden of Developmental Disability in Young Children
New publication analyses data from 195 countries between 1990-2016.
The Lancet has published a new article on the global burden of developmental disability in children under the age of five:
Developmental disabilities among children younger than 5 years in 195 countries and territories, 1990–2016: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016
The review highlights that levels of developmental disability among young children have not changed significantly since 1990, and remain disproportionately high in low and middle-income countries. It calls for more unified global attention to the issue, particularly as more young people live beyond childhood as a result of successful child survival initiatives.
