Personal stories

Read the stories of the children and parents we work with and our staff.

AKTAR. Aktar attends a day care centre based in the village of Bokonbaevo in the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic. HealthProm works to develop the centre with its partner organisation, Shoola-Kol.

Aktar has autism and took a long while to get used to the day care workers and other children. He always tried to hide from people. Now he’s really opening up to others and smiles more and more often. He never misses classes at the centre, despite living in a different village.

Find out more about Aktar’s development.

Laylita has learning difficulties. Despite this she has learnt the alphabet and can independently recognise letters.  Syllables are difficult, but she is learning them. It took her a long time to get used to the day centre. She was very spontaneous and did whatever she felt like. There was no logical beginning or end to her activities.

BEGAILA. Begaila attends a day care centre based in the village of Bokonbaevo in the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic. HealthProm works to develop the centre with its partner organisation, Shoola-Kol.

Begaila has cerebral palsy and developmental delay. From a young age her life hasn’t been easy. Despite her difficulties, Begaila tries everything and is studying poetry in Russian, Kyrgyz and English.  She has hemiplegia on her right side but works hard to develop the use of her right arm. This is, as she says, so she can help her mother more with the housework and be able to draw.
